Role: Co-Investigator

I am a first generation Mexican-American early career researcher and clinical-community psychologist with expertise in behavioral health treatments in rural and indigenous populations. My research interests center on opioid use disorder (OUD) and recovery especially as it relates to the role of ethnic minority wellbeing and cultural identification. For the UNM IMPOWR Center, I serve as a Co-Investigator with a specific focus on the Opioid and Pain Treatment in Indigenous Communities (OPTIC) study to culturally center the integrated treatment of OUD and chronic pain treatment in American Indian and Alaska Native health systems using the Native American Motivational Interviewing to facilitate consumer engagement.
